Alabama Ready To Work’s partnership with Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind

Ready To Work (RTW) is a soft skills training program that provides participants entry level skills needed for employment. The new RTW curriculum debuted in October 2017 and, along with content updates, sought to increase accessibility to individuals with disabilities. With these updates, AIDT was able to establish a partnership with E.H. Gentry, a vocational and educational rehabilitation program, which serves adults within the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind to offer the RTW program to their students. Shonna Soliday, from Huntsville, AL, enrolled in the RTW program and is the first graduate of their program. SUSCC Graduate Ready to Work

Brian Samac, a recent RTW graduate from Southern Union State Community College, is currently awaiting a phone call to accept a temporary position, said RTW instructor Kristy Pulsifer. He is still seeking full-time permanent placement and volunteering at the Lee County Humane Society until he is able to further his education. Although he had a 3-day lapse in enrollment, Brian displayed the initiative to complete every task put before him and excelled utilizing his strong work ethic. He was an excellent student, said Pulsifer, and it was a pleasure working with him.
